GENERAL NEWS: Akufo-Addo to firm-up school reopening after Cabinet meeting on December 30

  President  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  is receiving briefings from  COVID-19  Technical Taskforce on limited school re-openings and would make a firm decision on school reopening in January 2021 after a Cabinet meeting on December 30, 2020. Addressing a news conference in Accra on  COVID-19  Updates on Tuesday, Information Minister,  Kojo Oppong Nkrumah , said the  COVID-19  Taskforce would work throughout the Christmas period to brief the President and analyse the impact of the  COVID-19  pandemic on students, during the limited school re-openings in July, August, September, and October, this year. Government in July allowed final year students in the tertiary education institutions to complete their semester courses and wrote their exit examinations. LIVE UPDATES: Dogboe vs Magdaleno.

Young Ghanaian boxer, Isaac Dogboe, stands on the cusp of greatness as he challenges Mexican Jessie Magdaleno for his World Boxing Organisation (WBO) junior featherweight title at the at the Liacouras Centre in Philadelphia, USA, this morning.

It is a night of destiny for the 23-year-old challenger, nicknamed Royal Storm, as he faces a career-defining moment against a very formidable champion who makes only his second title defence since winning the crown in 2016 but has been inactive due to injury.

Dogboe displayed in January that he could be a tough customer as he stood toe to toe with Juarez, dropping him twice before American referee Tony Weeks stepped in to save the Mexican from further trouble. Since that 6th round TKO victory in Accra, the Ghanaian has been talking tough as he aims to follow the path walked by illustrious compatriots such as boxing David ‘Poison’ Kotei, Azumah Nelson, Ike Quartey, Alfred Kotey, Nana Yaw Konadu, Joshua Clottey and Joseph Agbeko.

GENERAL NEWS: Double Track System: Vacation classes to be held in churches – GES.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said it will organise extra classes to augment the regular double track system so that students on vacation can be engaged while they wait their turn to go to school.  Deputy Public Relations Officer of GES, Isaac Asiedu Odei disclosed to TV3 that the extra classes will be held in church halls, community centers and private schools across the country for students on vacation.  He explained that some church halls and community centres are already being used for extra classes as such the ministry will take advantage of the situation.  “You know we have a lot of church halls or community centres…it’s a temporary kind of structure and you know people are organising classes in some of these structures already and we can even take advantage of some private schools, when they close we can also go in there,” he explained.  Mr. Odei also disclosed that government is going to place about four teachers in “every district or...
