  President  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  is receiving briefings from  COVID-19  Technical Taskforce on limited school re-openings and would make a firm decision on school reopening in January 2021 after a Cabinet meeting on December 30, 2020. Addressing a news conference in Accra on  COVID-19  Updates on Tuesday, Information Minister,  Kojo Oppong Nkrumah , said the  COVID-19  Taskforce would work throughout the Christmas period to brief the President and analyse the impact of the  COVID-19  pandemic on students, during the limited school re-openings in July, August, September, and October, this year. Government in July allowed final year students in the tertiary education institutions to complete their semester courses and wrote their exit examinations. GENERAL NEWS: My husband died peacefully in his sleep - Kofi Annan's wife reveals.

The family and foundation of former UN secretary-general, Kofi Annan, have confirmed his death and provided additional information on his final moments.

YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Kofi Annan died after a short illness in Berne, Switzerland, on Saturday.

He was 80. He had reportedly fallen ill while on a trip to South Africa and had been flown back to his Switzerland base for treatment.

The late diplomat's widow, Nane Maria, has revealed to Ghana's president, Nana Akufo-Addo, in a phone call that he died peacefully in his sleep.

The Kofi Annan Foundation confirmed this in a statement issued on Facebook, adding that Kofi Annan's children, Ama, Kojo and Nina, were by his side during his last days.

"It is with immense sadness that the Annan family and the Kofi Annan Foundation announce that Kofi Annan, former Secretary General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Laureate, passed away peacefully on Saturday 18th August after a short illness," the statement said.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said it will organise extra classes to augment the regular double track system so that students on vacation can be engaged while they wait their turn to go to school.  Deputy Public Relations Officer of GES, Isaac Asiedu Odei disclosed to TV3 that the extra classes will be held in church halls, community centers and private schools across the country for students on vacation.  He explained that some church halls and community centres are already being used for extra classes as such the ministry will take advantage of the situation.  “You know we have a lot of church halls or community centres…it’s a temporary kind of structure and you know people are organising classes in some of these structures already and we can even take advantage of some private schools, when they close we can also go in there,” he explained.  Mr. Odei also disclosed that government is going to place about four teachers in “every district or...
