GENERAL NEWS: Akufo-Addo to firm-up school reopening after Cabinet meeting on December 30

  President  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  is receiving briefings from  COVID-19  Technical Taskforce on limited school re-openings and would make a firm decision on school reopening in January 2021 after a Cabinet meeting on December 30, 2020. Addressing a news conference in Accra on  COVID-19  Updates on Tuesday, Information Minister,  Kojo Oppong Nkrumah , said the  COVID-19  Taskforce would work throughout the Christmas period to brief the President and analyse the impact of the  COVID-19  pandemic on students, during the limited school re-openings in July, August, September, and October, this year. GENERAL NEWS: Nzema East MCE donates sandals, shoes to schools.

The Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) of Nzema East Municipality in the Western Region, Hon. Frank Okpenyen popularly known as Franko has donated school sandals to schools in the area to facilitate effective teaching and learning. 

The donation forms part of his commitment to support and improve effective teaching and learning in the schools of his Municipality. 

He donated 400 school sandals of different sizes to five primary schools to some selected deprived pupils to motivate them to attend school regularly. 

The beneficiary schools were; Allah Sunna Islamic School of Axim, Agona M/A primary school, Ewuku M/A primary school, Aguafo M/A primary school, Bokro M/A primary school and Kakusuazo M/A primary school. 

In addition to the school sandals, exercise books, pencils, pens, crayons and erasers were donated to the schools to aid them in teaching and learning. 

He also motivated them biscuits and toffees.

The MCE made the above donations during 'My First Day At School' over the last week. 

The MCE said he observed during his visit to Kakusuazo M/A basic school where he donated desks to the school, that some of the school children barefooted to school and that motivated him to provide them with the sandals.



He reiterated government's commitment to ensuring quality education for all children of school going age and tasked the children to make good use of the items to achieve its intended purposes. 

He, therefore, advised the pupils to take their studies seriously since they are the future leaders of the country. 

He also advised them to refrain from deviant behaviours that will affect their future and respect their parents and also be God-fearing.

He used the occasion to encourage the teaching staff to work hard and urged them to work hard with patience, humility and selfless in other to upbringing the children to become good future leaders. 

He also urged the teachers to take good care of the future leaders of the Municipality. 

He pledged the Assembly's readiness to commit more resources in providing facilities to ensure quality education for the nation's development. 

He promised to donate some items to other school children and disclosed that the gesture is not going to be a nine-day wonder but would be done every term. 



He also used the opportunity and promised to liaise with the Member of Parliament for the area, Hon. Catherine Afeku to improve educational performance in the area.

He thanked the MP for the immense support given to the Assembly to improve educational performance in the area. 

Receiving the items on behalf of the schools, the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Alexis Matipah Nkakou expressed appreciation to the MCE for the kind gesture and pledged to supervise the teachers to do their best to ensure that the children take their studies seriously and benefit from the donation. 

He said the donation by the MCE has come at the right time adding that it would motivate the children to be regular to school. 

He used the occasion to appeal to the MCE and the government to support the Education Directorate of providing infrastructures for some schools in the Municipality. 

He advised parents of these communities to invest all their resources in their children's education and added that education opens all doors and also advised them to teach their kids to be respectful and obedient. 

Moreover, some of the pupils also expressed their appreciation towards the MCE and promised him to learn hard in order to become future leaders of this country and also prayed hard for the MCE to live long.

The MCE was accompanied by some staff of the Assembly led by the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Gilbert Nuu-tey, the Municipal Education Director, Mr. Alexis Matipah Nkakou, some educationalists, the media among others.
