Many months after Comedian Funny Face, known in private life as Nana Yaw Oduro Boateng was insulted by controversial Counselor Lutterodt over his divorce issues, Funny Face has finally decided to reply. GENERAL NEWS: Lecturers lament poor infrastructure at UENR, accuse government of neglect.

The University Teachers Association of Ghana (UTAG) branch at the University of Energy and Natural Resources at Sunyani in the Brong Ahafo Region, are worried about the state of infrastructure in the institution especially lecture halls and are therefore urging government to have a second look at the University.  Since its establishment, it has not seen any expansion in the area of infrastructure.  The University continues to use facilities it inherited from the campus of Faculty of Forest Resources Technology of KNUST.  All GETFUND projects started have all stalled. GENERAL NEWS: IGP found guilty of contempt of court.

An Accra high court has found the Inspector General of Police David Asante Apeatu guilty of contempt of court. This was after two citizens Samuel Aggrey Jnr and Augustine Gyekye told the court he had wilfully disobeyed orders to provide security for the execution of a court order for the sale of a 12 block flats belonging to them. This case has travelled from 1988 when a woman, Mrs Aggrey (now deceased), filed the case against REDCO Company limited. Se said the company had failed to pay an amount of money owed her. She won the case as the court in the judgment attached the property, 12-block flat at Madina in Accra. That is to say that if REDCO fails to pay the money the court will sell the property in order to retrieve the money for her. REDCO appealed this decision but lost. But even before the court ruled on the matter REDCO gave out the property to the Ghana Police Service to house some of its officers. The applicants then went back to court to seek an orde...

The 17-year old girl who is a victim of an alleged sexual assault at Obuasi Senior High Technical School in the Ashanti region has revealed, an official of the Ghana Education Service coached her to deny that the teacher forcibly had sex with her.  The 47-year-old teacher and housemaster Seth Amponsah is being investigated by the GES after he denied the act.  Seth Amponsah has admitted the girl swept his office and studied there at night. Dr Yao Yeboah, Chairman of the Governing Council, Ghana Health Service (GHS) on Tuesday said hypertension is the fourth killer of Ghanaians across the country and the first killer of patients that attended the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. He said the health sector concentrates higher percentage of its national budget to address diabetes and hypertension. He said the disorders were caused by preventable individual lifestyles like excessive drinking of alcohol, lack of exercises, and eating non-healthy diets. Former President John Mahama has accused the Akufo Addo government of constructing dugouts instead of the promised dams in villages in the Northern Region. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) made a major campaign promise ahead of 2016 to construct one dam per a village in the three regions up North to improve on irrigation in the area. GENERAL NEWS: UBS rogue trader Kweku Adoboli released on bail.

The convicted former UBS trader Kweku Adoboli has been released from detention at an immigration removal centre near Heathrow while he awaits a judicial review of his deportation.  Adoboli was released on Tuesday night after a judge ruled he should be bailed. According to the Guardian, he has been detained at Harmondsworth immigration centre for the past 36 days.  The 38-year-old was jailed for seven years in 2012 after being found guilty of fraud that cost UBS $2.3bn (£1.8bn). He was released after serving half his sentence. The government’s plan to engage a foreign national to design a master redevelopment plan for the nation’s capital, Accra has angered key professionals who have described the move as an insult to their capabilities. This follows an announcement by Senior Minister, Yaw Osafo Marfo, of plans to engage a Singaporean architect and planner, Dr. Liu Thai-Ker, to help redevelop Accra as part of government’s agenda to transform Accra into a modern city. Although government officials in February held a meeting with Dr Ker to help redevelop the country’s capital city to be one of the modern cities in the world, some civil engineers have kicked against the decision.
