GENERAL NEWS: Akufo-Addo to firm-up school reopening after Cabinet meeting on December 30

  President  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  is receiving briefings from  COVID-19  Technical Taskforce on limited school re-openings and would make a firm decision on school reopening in January 2021 after a Cabinet meeting on December 30, 2020. Addressing a news conference in Accra on  COVID-19  Updates on Tuesday, Information Minister,  Kojo Oppong Nkrumah , said the  COVID-19  Taskforce would work throughout the Christmas period to brief the President and analyse the impact of the  COVID-19  pandemic on students, during the limited school re-openings in July, August, September, and October, this year. Government in July allowed final year students in the tertiary education institutions to complete their semester courses and wrote their exit examinations. GENERAL NEWS: Justice Dotse informed me about 3 judges’ murder - ‘Outraged’ Tsatsu reacts.

Legal luminary, Tsatsu Tsikata has denied knowing anything about the abduction and murder of the three judges and an army major in 1982, MyNewsGH.com has filed. 

According to him, at no point in time was he aware of any development around the murder calling it “an outrageous claim”. 

“It is an outrageous claim. Completely outrageous!” Tsatsu Tsikata fired. 

“From the bottom of my heart, I had nothing to do with the murder of the judges” he added. 

“The day that I heard that judges had been abducted, I was actually in court in Ho. I had left Acrra in the morning. I had driven to Ho oblivious of the murder of the judges. There was a case I was doing for some farmers in Ho, as I was entering the town I didn’t know where the court was so I saw a lawyer as he was then and I wanted to ask him for direction to the court. That is Lawyer Dotse as he was then. I knew him because he was my student at Legon. So he asked me about the murder of the judges. I was completely dumbfounded. I hope Justice Jones Dotse will not mind my making this public,” Tsatsu explained.

On June 30, 1982, three High Court judges, Justice Cecelia Koranteng Addo, Kwadwo Adjei Agyepong, Poku Sarkodie and a retired army officer, Major Sam Acquah were abducted within curfew hours, shot and burnt by ruthless, lawless men including young soldiers over claims they were corrupt. 

The judges had adjudicated high profile cases involving the then military government and had freed suspects who were brought before them. They were abducted and murdered ostensibly because they were deemed to be bias and corrupt. 

The murder shook the nation prompting the arrest of some of the suspects who were tried and found guilty. Joachim Amartey Kwei, Lance Corporal Samuel Michael Senyah, ex-soldier Johnny Dzandu, Tony Tekpor, Lance Corporal Gordon Kwowu, Lance Corporal Mama Nsurowua, Lance Corporal Victor Gomeleshio, Sergeant Daniel Alolga Akata Pore were all named. 

Some of the suspects were shot after they were found guilty but Lance Corporal Amedeka escaped and has since not returned to Ghana.

GENERAL NEWS: Double Track System: Vacation classes to be held in churches – GES.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said it will organise extra classes to augment the regular double track system so that students on vacation can be engaged while they wait their turn to go to school.  Deputy Public Relations Officer of GES, Isaac Asiedu Odei disclosed to TV3 that the extra classes will be held in church halls, community centers and private schools across the country for students on vacation.  He explained that some church halls and community centres are already being used for extra classes as such the ministry will take advantage of the situation.  “You know we have a lot of church halls or community centres…it’s a temporary kind of structure and you know people are organising classes in some of these structures already and we can even take advantage of some private schools, when they close we can also go in there,” he explained.  Mr. Odei also disclosed that government is going to place about four teachers in “every district or...
