GENERAL NEWS: Akufo-Addo to firm-up school reopening after Cabinet meeting on December 30

  President  Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo  is receiving briefings from  COVID-19  Technical Taskforce on limited school re-openings and would make a firm decision on school reopening in January 2021 after a Cabinet meeting on December 30, 2020. Addressing a news conference in Accra on  COVID-19  Updates on Tuesday, Information Minister,  Kojo Oppong Nkrumah , said the  COVID-19  Taskforce would work throughout the Christmas period to brief the President and analyse the impact of the  COVID-19  pandemic on students, during the limited school re-openings in July, August, September, and October, this year. Government in July allowed final year students in the tertiary education institutions to complete their semester courses and wrote their exit examinations. Ghana’s COVID-19 death toll hits 223; active cases now 2,029

 Ghana’s active COVID-19 cases currently stand at 2,029.

168 COVID-19 new cases recorded in the country have pushed the total case count to 41,572.

Eight more deaths have also been recorded increasing the toll to 223.

This was captured on the Ghana Health Service’s Website on August 12, 2020.

Four regions out of the 16 do not have any active cases.

They are; Upper West, Upper East, Savannah and North East regions.

The Greater Accra Region continues to lead the active cases chart with 766 current cases.

Ashanti Region also has 538 active cases followed by Central Region and Eastern Region with 242 and 228 active cases respectively.

The region with the least number of active 

cases is the Bono Region with three cases.

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has said it will organise extra classes to augment the regular double track system so that students on vacation can be engaged while they wait their turn to go to school.  Deputy Public Relations Officer of GES, Isaac Asiedu Odei disclosed to TV3 that the extra classes will be held in church halls, community centers and private schools across the country for students on vacation.  He explained that some church halls and community centres are already being used for extra classes as such the ministry will take advantage of the situation.  “You know we have a lot of church halls or community centres…it’s a temporary kind of structure and you know people are organising classes in some of these structures already and we can even take advantage of some private schools, when they close we can also go in there,” he explained.  Mr. Odei also disclosed that government is going to place about four teachers in “every district or...

ENTERTAINMENT NEWS: Sarkodie declares Akwaboah as best song writer in Africa.
